Feral resistance to the practical and political challenges of transition, particularly at a time of increased discrimination and restrictive legislation faced by trans/ queer people.
"Pleasure Imprints is a performance (in an installation) and a fundraiser for my gender affirming care.
Unfortunately, trans health care in the UK is hugely under-resourced. In my local area the waiting list for an initial appointment is 6 years 10 month. Waiting this long to access gender affirming care would have an extremely detrimental effect on my mental health, so I've decided to try and raise money to pay for the care I need privately.
Despite the challenges of transition, my overwhelming experience of being trans is dead joyful. The Pleasure Imprints work reflects that.
In a pool of raw clay and fresh flowers, I “clart about”* : using mud and petals to decorate, delight in and reimagine my body. I perform the work in a lusciously textured installation made from vintage fabrics and flowers. This is inspired by my gran’s 1980s council house and garden- an unexpected place of acceptance and safety, in a chaotic and semi nomadic childhood.
*Clart on: local County Durham Pitmatic dialect phrase meaning “mess on / mess about”,

The fundraiser
In collaboration with brilliant photographer Christa Holka I’ve made a series of images of the performance. Prints of these will be available as rewards as part of my fundraiser. The campaign is open from July 1st- Aug 31st 2026. Other rewards include mentoring sessions with me, signed books, zines and prints by other artists and curators.
What people’s money is supporting.
I’m aiming to raise £12,350 to fund:
-
surgery (£10,000)
-
travel and accommodation (£1,000) a week away from home for me and someone to support me during recovery as I’ll have to have this outside of my local North East)
-
Support with childcare while I am away (£200, someone to support my co-parent with wrap around care for my children while I'm away)
-
two weeks off work (£800, as someone whose whole income comes from self employed work as an artist, I have no paid holiday or sick pay)
-
Fees to the fundraising platform (estimated at £350)
